This Week at the WRC
More than 30 women - an equal mix of undergraduates and graduate
students - crowded the Climbing Wall at the CRC last Friday 
for our Women's Night on the Wall! This week begins registration for the
Women's Leadership Conference (Nov. 3-4) 
and don't forget to sign up now for two WRC fieldtrips!

1) Women's Leadership Conference - Registration began today!
Registration for the November 3-4 Women's Leadership Conference began
today. Early-bird rates are $10 for students and $25 for
faculty/staff/alumni/community - or sign up to volunteer and receive

The 10th Georgia Tech Women's Leadership Conference will be held Friday,
November 3 (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.) and Saturday, November 4 (8:30 a.m. to 3
p.m.) at the Georgia Tech Student Center. The conference includes three
keynote speakers, 15 workshop options, a Women of Distinction awards
ceremony and a special Women in the Workforce/Alumnae track.

2) Afternoon at Charis Books & More
THIS Wednesday, October 4, 4 p.m. meet at the WRC at 3:45 transportation

The South's oldest independent feminist bookstore and the Women's
Resource Center are going to convene for an afternoon to tour the store
and chat about literature.  This is a great escape from campus for a
short afternoon.  Come join us for some tea as we tour and chat. 
 
3) Niki in the Garden
NEXT Tuesday, October 10, 7 p.m. meet at the WRC transportation provided
Cost: $12 
The Niki Charitable Art Foundation brings the legacy of the late
artist's ideal.  This is the world's largest exhibition of
internationally renowned artist Niki de Saint Phalles outdoor sculptures
ever presented.  For a limited time this exhibit will be available.
Please join us for an evening in the Atlanta Botanical Garden

view sculptures that have been delighting international audiences for
decades.

4) October Graduate Women's Lunch

Managing Stress Through Time Management:  The reality of having too much
to do in too little time is a major source of stress that is commonly
ignored.  Especially for highly achieving people, the temptation is to
continue to try to do more with less and to overcommit.  These traps can
cause successful people to burn out. This workshop provides strategies
for successful time management to increase efficiency and overall well
being. Presented by Nelson Binggeli, Ph.D.

5) Dean of Students Candidate Open Forum
Thursday, October 5, 2 to 3 p.m. 117 Student Services

The search committee for the Assistant Vice President & Dean of Students
has recommended that John Stein be interviewed as a finalist for the
position. The search committee reviewed 145 candidates for the position,
since it began the search last spring. As part of the interview process,
an open forum has been scheduled for any student, faculty, or staff
member to attend. It is scheduled for Thursday, 10/5/06, 2pm - 3pm, in
Rm 117, Student Services Building. All those wishing to provide input in
the selection of the candidate for the position may do so up until 5pm

6) Georgia Tech Women's Forum
"Meet-n-Eat:  Annual Social and Membership Drive"
Wednesday, October 4, 2006
11:30 am to 1:30 pm
GT Student Center, Room 320

TOPIC:  Join the Georgia Tech Women's Forum as we celebrate 25 years of
service to the Georgia Tech community.  A complimentary lunch of salads
and desserts will be provided as well as a fun exchange of plant
cuttings for your garden.  If you have any plant cuttings to share,
please bring them.  
ABOUT GTWF:  Founded in 1981, the Georgia Tech Women's Forum (GTWF) is
an organization comprised of employees from all facets of the Georgia
Tech community and remains firm in our mission to provide opportunities
for women at Georgia Tech. We have accomplished this via networking,
sharing, learning and leadership.  Program speakers at our monthly
meetings provide a variety of perspectives on issues of interest to
today's professional women.
 
SCHOLARSHIP FUND: GTWF also holds a professional responsibility to
encourage and support women in their academic endeavors at Georgia Tech.
The GTWF Scholarship Fund awards scholarships ranging from $500 to $1000
annually to female students based on financial need, academic
achievement, and leadership. 

MEMBERSHIP:  Consider joining our organization and supporting
scholarship opportunities and exciting program speakers throughout the
year.  A membership application is attached.    Our annual membership
fee is only $10.

7) Georgia Tech Women's Basketball team kicks off "Save Lids to Save
Lives" campaign
 
Last week the Georgia Tech Women's Basketball team started its
fundraising efforts for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The
team is collecting money to fight breast cancer through the Yoplait
"Save Lids to Save Lives" program. Jackets are currently in a friendly
competition with the women's basketball team at NC State to see who can
collect more lids by November 15th. For every pink Yoplait yogurt lid
fans bring to the Georgia Tech home football games, or mail in by Nov.
15, 2006, Yoplait and General Mills will donate 10 cents to the Susan G.
Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
 
You can help by bringing your pink Yoplait yogurt lids to one of the
Georgia Tech home football games or placing them in bids around campus
such as the GT Student Center Food Court.
 
8) The 5 Browns <http://www.the5browns.com/>  are coming to the Ferst
Center of Arts
Wednesday, October 4, 7:30 p.m.
Charming, articulate and close-knit, the talented piano quintet returns
to the Ferst Center after a sensational worldwide debut last year. This
set of brothers and sisters - Desirae, Deondra, Melody, Gregory and Ryan
- has just released their second chart-topping album which showcases the
classical pianists' extraordinary gifts.
 
Student tickets are only $10 at the Ferst Center box office located on
the second floor of the Student Center. For more information go to

9) Craft Center Workshops
For those who want to learn to use the ceramics molds and slip, or who
would like a refresher, please participate in  a ceramics workshop in
the Craft Center on Tuesday October 3 from 6-7 p.m.
 
There is also a pottery workshop currently scheduled for Friday, October
6, also from 6-7 p.m.  Anyone who wants to become more familiar with
working clay on the pottery wheels is welcome to come. 
 
10) Difference in Communication Styles between Latinos and European
Americans: A presentation by William Cruz
Tuesday, October 3, 7 p.m.
Management Building 100
Food will be provided. 
GE, SHPE and the Office of Diversity Programs presents a high energy
presentation that brings light to differences in nonverbal and verbal
communication styles between Latinos and European Americans. 

11) Paul Rusesabagina: Subject of "Hotel Rwanda" Visits GT This Thursday
Thursday, October 5, 2006 
7 to 8 p.m., Student Center Ballroom
Do not miss this opportunity to meet a true hero! Hotel Manager Paul
Rusesabagina, author of An Ordinary Man, and subject of the excellent
film "Hotel Rwanda", appears at Georgia Tech to tell his story. Book
signing will follow the program.

12) Georgia Tech Coming Out Week (GTCOW)

GTCOW is a week-long program created to build a campus climate where
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (GLBTQ) students,
faculty, staff and their allies are not just tolerated but are accepted
and comfortable with their diverging individuality. The events that are
part of GTCOW are geared toward raising awareness on campus and getting
people comfortable with GLBTQ issues. Some of the events focus on very
specific issues from religion to politics to what it is like from a
parent's perspective. Through these events GTCOW strives to dampen the
effects of homophobia and to make the struggle less enduring for those
dealing with GLBTQ issues.

13) Women's Recruitment Team - Information and Application
Special Recruitment Programs is looking for women students to serve on
the Women's Recruitment Team. This will be a group of 65-75 women who
will assist with  Women's Receptions, Futures, and Girl's Night Out
Programs. They will work with the 17-member board much like the Connect
With Tech hosts work with their Advisory Board. 
As a member of the Women's Recruitment Team, students will have the
opportunity to show exceptional rising high school junior and senior
girls all about Georgia Tech. 

Applications due no later than Friday, October 6th at 5pm to Room 287 of
the Bill Moore Success Center; **please sign up for an interview time
when the application is submitted**

Requirements:
Applicants must have a 2.2 Cumulative GPA at Georgia Tech
Applicants must be available to attend 3 of the 5 Womens Receptions on
November 19th, January 28th, February 25th, March 11th, or April 22nd
FUTURES program, Friday, February 16, 2007, 8am-3:30 pm
Girls Night Out, June 24-25, 2007  **Preference will be given to women
who will be in the Atlanta area next summer and can attend.**
