Dear All

The technical and organizing committees of the RoboCup humanoid league has finalized the discussion and agreed to keep the existing rule regarding the playing field surface: "The field consists of a flat and even ground which is covered with artificial green grass with a yarn length of approximately 30mm.“

This rule gives some flexibilities to the LOC (local organizing committee) and also covers a FIFA-compliant solution. Please be informed, that for organizational, financial, or logistic reasons, the local organizers may choose different materials. This is line with the goal of the rule evolution of the humanoid league - the development of robust walking capabilities. Similarly, the field lines may be applied in many different ways, so that versatile line detection is necessary.

The process for selection of the playing surface is the same as every year. The Humanoid League will inform the LOC of the conclusion of the rule discussion and will present the FIFA approved 'Profoot MXSi 4G' artificial turf as a suitable option for RoboCup in Hefei. However, the final decision about the actual playing surface selected is up to the LOC, which must balance its various constraints in its final decision. Note that this is outside of the control of the Technical Committee of the Humanoid League. This also holds for different Open competitions.

The Technical Committee will request from the LOC that they will inform the OC and TC of the Humanoid League as soon as possible after they have made their decision and that the LOC will provide pictures of and further information about the selected playing surface. Once the TC receives further information from the LOC, they will post that information to the humanoid mailing list.
