Call For Contributions
--
More than a decade has passed since the first Humanoids conference,
and over that period, science and technology have advanced
significantly. It is time to revisit the original conception of
humanoids -- human-like robots -- and engage the next stage of
humanoid research. What can we do with the current and emerging
research across broad areas of science and technology to explore the
next generation of humanoids and their new relationship to humans?
How can we drastically push forwards the closeness to humans in terms
of design, embodiment, capabilities, interface, interaction,
assistance, and social embedding? How can we greatly extend the
contributions of humanoid robotics to real-world needs, human science
and engineering, medical study and practice, and the future of human
society?

The paper contributions, workshop proposals, and tutorial proposals
are expected to comprise, but are not limited to, the following topics:

* Novel materials, devices, mechanisms, energy systems for humanoids
* Principles and technologies for anthropomorphic/bionic design and
   control
* Whole-body dynamics, control, sensing, informatics
* Software and hardware architectures, system integration
* Teleoperation, tele-experience, tele-presence using humanoids
* Measuring, modeling and simulating humans
* Human and humanoid skills/cognition/interaction
* Humanoid locomotion, manipulation, perception, planning
* Humanoids for human science and engineering
* Adaptation, learning and cognitive development of humanoids
* Neuro-robotics and brain-robot interfaces for humanoids and humans
* Cyborgs, prostheses, assistive devices and sensor/motor suits
* Applications: home, field, space, social, industrial, medical,
   health/mental care, art/entertainment, education
* Social interaction and acceptability
* Grand challenges, competitions, outreach
* Superhuman humanoids / future humanoids: possibility, technology
   and meaning
* Humanoid ethics and philosophy

The contributed papers will be presented either at a single-track
oral-presentation session or at poster sessions. Note that which
style the paper will be presented in depends on the preference of
modality and will be decided by the program committee. All
contributions will appear as full-length papers in the conference
proceedings as well as IEEE Xplore.

Contributed Papers
--
All papers must be submitted electronically in PDF format via
PaperPlaza by June 22, 2012. The number of pages including all
figures is limited to six, but two additional pages will be permitted
at an extra page charge of JPY 15,000 per page. Detailed instructions
for paper submission can be found on the conference website.

Workshop and Tutorial Proposals
--
Proposals for half-day or full-day workshops and tutorials must be
submitted to the tutorial/workshop co-chairs via PaperPlaza as well
as regular papers by June 22, 2012. Proposals must include title,
organizers with contact information, scope and topics, and a list of
speakers. Detailed instructions for submission can be found on the
conference website.
