Workshop on Brain Computer Interface at SIMPAR10
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the last ten years the Brain–Computer Interface (BCI) research field has acquired a growing interest. The possibility to use brain’s signals as a new communication channel is a key point for both rehabilitation and life's quality of those people not able anymore to control own body. The ultimate aim of a BCI system, therefore, is to interpret correctly the user’s intent, and feed the effector device with the proper instructions. In addition, this interface must be able to translate few independent user mental commands into complex and different actions performed by the device.

How to control end effectors (i.e. mobile devices, wheelchairs, robotic prosthesis) by means of an uncertain channel such as a BCI is still an open issue in the scientific community.

The main aim of this Brain-Computer Interface workshop, co-located with SIMPAR 2010 robotic conference is to bring together researchers from multidisciplinary fields. On the one hand, the intention is to address the problem of integration between BCI and neuroprosthesis from different points of view. On the other hand, this workshop will investigate the benefits of using brain-actuated prosthesis in rehabilitation phase. In addition, the discussion for novel end-user BCI applications to increase the life’s quality of disable people will be solicited.

The workshop will feature invited speakers active in research on rehabilitation, robotics and Brain-Computer Interface.
