2016 Grace Hopper Student Travel Scholarship Applications Now Open!

The Office of Outreach, Enrollment and Community is pleased to announce that the 2016 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Student Travel Scholarship application for on-campus students is now open! The 2016 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing will take place October 19-21, 2016 in Houston, TX. Scholarships provided by the Office of Outreach, Enrollment, and Community will include: conference registration, hotel, flight, and some meals. Students will depart from Atlanta on Tuesday, October 18th and will return to Atlanta on Saturday, October 22nd. Please complete the form below (in its entirety) by September 2nd to be eligible for a scholarship for the 2016 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. Please note that you will not be able to save your application once it is begun, so you should complete the entire form at one time. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GHC16_StudentScholarship There are a limited number of scholarships to offer, and decisions will be made no later than Wednesday, September 7th. The NCWIT Collegiate Award, sponsored by HP and Qualcomm, honors the outstanding technical accomplishments of college women of any year of study. Conferred upon up to six students annually, the Award recognizes technical projects that demonstrate a high level of creativity and potential societal impact. Eligibility A college woman may apply to the NCWIT Collegiate Award if she meets the following criteria: * She is a member of the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Community<https://college.aspirations.org/membership>. * She is currently enrolled at an NCWIT Academic Alliance<https://www.ncwit.org/aa> (AA) community college, four-year college or university, or other AA higher education institution. * She is an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in computing. The Girls Who Code Program will provide all of the instructional materials for the program. We also have an instructor from Kell who will act as the sponsor for the program. My daughter went through the Girls who Code summer immersion program this summer at the Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park, CA. She spent 7 weeks there learning computer programing. She is a senior at Kell High School. She will act as a Teacher Assistant in this program. Please let me know if you have an undergraduate or graduate student who would be willing to volunteer to teach in this program. It would be two hours per week after school, school ends at 3:30. We think participation in the program would be beneficial for the high school girls, but also for the Georgia Tech volunteer as Girls Who Code is a very well regarded and influential program.
