Hi to all! I have a request for your group to consider about the wonderful upcoming event. Would you possibly change it's name to Fall Festival or something like that? There are cultures amongst us that do not celebrate Halloween! Promoting intercultural understanding and sensitivity is important - regardless of where we are. I hope you will discuss this at the Tuesday meeting - I believe I can attend it. [UWAB] One more Week til Halloween!

Hey guys, Meeting this Tuesday at 11:00! Some of us will be chalking and some of us will be making the games and preparing for next week. We need profesor responses! We'll talk about this Tuesday. Does anyone want to make a flier for this event? I'll be making a ppt and sending that to Maureen. That way, professors can put the ppt. in their slides. We can put a memo to remind the professors to reply too. :) Yay! Get excited! Decorating the CoC will be so much fun. :) Kathy

[UWAB] Another FAB Meeting

Hey guys! 11 Days til Party time! Next meeting: TUESDAY OCTOBER 25- Chalking, gathering Prof responses, make sure we have everything together. What we have: Extra money in the budget, paint for facepainting, lots of decorations, little toys to give out, some candy. What we need: 1. Responses from Professors (Please casually mention the invitations to your CS profs) 2. Food for Bake Sale (this is part of responses from professors, but we can bake also!) 3. Chalking NEXT TUESDAY OCTOBER 25th 11-12!!! 4. Halloween Music 5. Raffle Tickets for the BIG Prize (Nano). 6. Buy small raffle tickets 7. Bean Bag Toss Game! Please keep an eye out for halloween music. Anything similar to Laura's "oOooooOOoOoooo" will be good. Have a great rest of Thursday! Kathy

I met an awesome woman yesterday and she is giving a brown bag luncheon today in TSRB 132 - I ordered 10 extra lunches so any of you can go over to hear her and lunch is free. Take a friend even! Kelly Braun is a GT alum who went on to Duke to get her PhD and works in HCI type stuff for eBay and PayPal. You can learn a lot from her about the work environment, different jobs, etc. Here is more info - hope to see you there (I'm going over after my class). Kelly is currently the Senior Manager of PayPal's User Experience Research team. Kelly has been at eBay, Inc. since 1999 and has managed User Experience Research, Usability, UI and Content Management teams for the eBay Marketplace. Kelly has been involved in the HCI field for over 20 years as either a computer scientist or a cognitive psychologist. Kelly holds a BS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech and a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Duke. She has also worked for Bell-Northern Research, Nortel Networks and Oracle. In 2005, Kelly participated in a panel at CHI "Corporate Re-orgs: Poison or Catalyst to HCI", and co-authored papers at UPA "Visual Cluster Analysis and Fold Analysis: Methodologies for Quantitatively Analyzing Participatory Design Data" and HCII, "Designing the e-commerce User Experience for China". Kelly also contributed to the books, "Understanding Your Users: A practical guide to user requirements" by Courage & Baxter, 2004, and "Usability: The Site Speaks for Itself" by Braun, Gadney, et al. 2003. Kelly was the first woman editor-in-chief of the Georgia Tech student newspaper, The Technique. Have a great meeting - sorry I must miss due to class. I gave Laura my update on faculty responses to share with you. [UWAB] crafty crafts

hiya guys, trying to get us some halloween crafts...there is a 25 dollar charge overhead, and then a per person charge. is that okay? i figure we'll have something simple for the boys to do like buttons....or ceral bowl painting. how many people should we expect to do the crafts? any other ideas? anne
