The increasing need to automate daily household chores, to provide assistance to our elderly population and to improve the accuracy and efficiency of industrial tasks is driving the development of human-friendly robot assistants in numerous domains. The recent evolution of robot assistants such as Little Helper, PR2, Baxter, omniRob, Justin, iCub and HRP4 indicates that the era when an intelligent robot will be our personal assistant in various everyday tasks is close.

This IAS workshop aims at bringing together experts from academia and industry from relevant disciplines that would exchange ideas and discuss their success stories with intelligent robot assistants in various fields, from household applications and health care to security and industrial robot co-workers. We warmly welcome your participation and your contribution of an extended abstract presenting your ongoing research.

*** Topics (not limiting) ***

* Mobile and automated manipulation systems
* Learning by demonstration, learning by instruction
* Symbiotic and safe interaction between robots and humans
* Design and specification of robot skills
* Software engineering for robot assistants
* Robot co-workers in industrial settings
* Multi-modal human machine interfaces for assistive robotics
* Elderly care assistive robots
* Service robots for inspection, cleaning and maintenance
* Robot companions and personal robotics

*** Invited Speakers ***

Florentin Wörgötter, (University of Göttingen, Germany)
Jeremy Wyatt (University of Birmingham, UK)
Marc Hanheide (University of Lincoln, UK)
Mustafa Suphi Erden (EPFL, Switzerland)

*** Key Dates ***

20 April 2014: Submission of extended abstracts
20 May 2014: Notification of Acceptance
15/18 July 2014: Workshop date

*** Author Instructions ***

Participants are invited to submit extended abstracts of three pages, describing new and ongoing work or proposing future research directions with high relevance to intelligent robot assistants. The authors of the accepted extended abstracts will have the opportunity to discuss their results and give a talk at the workshop.
