Dear Colleagues,

Robotics is currently running a Special Issue entitled "Soft Machines:
Integrating Sensing, Actuation and Computation". Dr. Sina Naficy,
Dr. Michael P.M. Dicker and Prof. Jonathan M. Rossiter
are serving as Guest Editors for this issue. We think you
could make an excellent contribution based on your expertise.

Soft machines based on well-integrated sensors and actuators can
autonomously change their physical properties and interact with their
surroundings in an organic manner. Such machines hold a great potential
for biomedical devices, artificial limbs, and cooperative human
assistance. Realising this vision requires novel soft, smart hybrid
systems capable of sensing, computing, and actuation at micron-scale.
Tightly integrating actuation, sensing, and computation into one single
system can extend the functionality of traditional smart materials to
truly programmable soft machines. This goal can be achieved by: 1)
integrating sensing, actuation, and computation through novel smart
materials, 2) adapting new fabrication techniques capable of creating
hybrid, hierarchical structures....

For further reading, please follow the link to the Special Issue website
at: http://www.mdpi.com/journal/robotics/special_issues/soft-machines.

The submission deadline is 31 October 2018. You may send your manuscript
now or up until the deadline. Submitted papers should not be under
consideration for publication elsewhere. We also encourage authors to
send a short abstract or tentative title to the Editorial Office in
advance (robotics at mdpi.com).

Since Volume 6, all published papers will be added in Scopus. The
journal is also indexed in Web of Sciences (Thomson Reuters), as part of
the ESCI database.

Robotics is fully open access. Open access (unlimited and free access by
readers) increases publicity and promotes more frequent citations, as
indicated by several studies. Open access is supported by the authors
and their institutes. An Article Processing Charge (APC) of CHF 350
currently applies to all accepted papers. You may be entitled to a
discount if you have previously received a discount code or if your
institute is participating in the MDPI Institutional Open Access Program
(IOAP), for more information see: http://www.mdpi.com/about/ioap.

For further details on the submission process, please see the
instructions for authors at the journal website
(http://www.mdpi.com/journal/robotics/instructions).

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Linda Wang
Managing Editor
