Dear all,

Applications are invited for three fully funded research assistant position at the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal.

These research assistant positions target candidates holding a Master degree (or equivalent) with interest on pursuing a PhD degree. Each one of the selected candidates is expected to develop research, according to his/her preference, on one of the following topics:

• Audio-visual aerial robot localization using ground robot tracking: To develop a robust method for localizing micro aerial robots from a ground robot by exploiting the existing acoustic and visual information.

• Active perception for mobile robot systems: To develop methods for detection and localization of objects using active vision and "Markov Decision Processes"/ "Partially Observed Markov Decision Processes" decision making techniques.

• Vision-based onboard localization system for micro aerial robots: To develop solutions for improving the localization accuracy of micro aerial robots using active vision guiding the robot to target locations while maintaining visual contact with feature-rich areas.

These positions will be supervised by Prof. Pedro U. Lima, Dr. Meysam Basiri, and by Dr. Pedro Miraldo, faculty at IST and researchers at the Intelligent Robots and Systems group of ISR/IST (http://welcome.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/projects_cat/irsg/).

The research will be conducted at the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR/IST), home to more than 40 PhDs and part of the LARSyS (Laboratory for Robotics and Engineering Systems - http://www.larsys.pt). ISR/IST is engaged in a new generation of research challenges pushing the frontiers of knowledge, while offering world-class doctoral training with top universities (e.g. dual/joint degrees with MIT, EPFL, CMU) and fueling the collaboration with industry. ISR/IST develops state-of- the-art engineering solutions and projects with a clear societal impact, and has a long track record of participation in EU and other international projects. ISR/IST hosts 5 groups working in Robotics and Information Processing, Systems and Control Theory, Signal Processing, Computer Vision, Optimization, Intelligent Systems and Biomedical Engineering. (http://www.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt).

Requirements: the candidates are expected to have a MSc of equivalent degree with strong background in robotics, artificial intelligence, and computer science. Good programming skills are also expected. The working language is English, so good written and oral communication skills are also required.

Application:

        Deadline: 11-May-2017

        Duration: 6 months (full time)

        Starting date: no later than 1st of July 2017

        Place: ISR/IST - IST Alameda campus, Lisbon, Portugal

To request further information and to apply for these positions, send an email to pmiraldo at isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt and basiri at isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt as soon as possible. Please include:
* a CV
* a statement of interest
* grade transcripts
* recommendation letters, and
* any other supporting documents you may consider helpful,

all in a single zip or pdf file.

Best regards,

Pedro Lima
