The Second International Workshop on Benchmarking and Measuring Service Robots(Call for Papers )
The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers to share their research progress and ideas on the significance and challenges of benchmarking and measuring service robots, and promote the research on quantitative measurements for the performanceof autonomous service robots. The first international workshop on benchmarking and measuring service robots was successfully organized in Hefei on July 2015, co-located with RoboCup 2015. The second workshop will be held jointly with ICIRA 2017 (http://www.icira2017.org), in Wuhan, China on August 15-18, 2017. All papers accepted to be presented at the conference as well as the workshop are to be published in LNAI/LNCS series of Springer (indexed in EI Engineering Index). The CFP for ICIRA 2017 can be found in: Call for paper
Apart from the paper presentations, the workshop will also include several keynote speeches from both academia and industry and extensive discussions about the scientific issues of benchmarking and measuring service robots.
Keynote Speakers
David Hsu, National University of Singapore, Singapore
Luca Iocchi, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy
Xiaogang Song, China Robot Industry Alliance, China
Objectives
Benchmarking and measuring service robots has drawn increasing interest from researchers and professionals in recent years. A common form of benchmarking and measuring service robots is service robot competitions, such as DARPA Robotic Challenge, RoboCup at Home, and RoCKIn. Although these competitions try to decompose the task into parts to be quantitatively evaluated, they still include subjective judging by humans. Therefore, these competitions are not objective and accurate.
Specific quantitative measurements on robot performance would enable to directly and accurately identify the strengths and weaknesses of robot technologies through scientific tests. We are therefore organizing the second international workshop on benchmarking and measuring service robots towards further understanding and proposing quantitative measurements in robotics research.
Topics
The related themes or topics of this workshop include but do not limit to:
Methodology of benchmarking and measuring service robots
Quantitative measurement in robotics research
Standard platforms and test-beds for service robots
Robotic techniques and applications based on motion-perception systems
Organization Committee
Chair:Xiaoping Chen, University of Science and Technology of China
