Dear HL and other RoboCuper friends

As a part of Humanoid League learning program to promote RoboCup, 4th
International Spring School for Humanoid Soccer Robots 2015 will be held
between 20 and 22 of May 2015, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Three past related events were in Canada, Germany and Iran.

Since the start of the humanoid league in 2002, there have been lots of
improvements in humanoid soccer robots hardware and software. This is
partially due to the introduction of standard and competitions for complex
simulated robots (3D Simulation). In order to have a long term goal in the
learning aspects of humanoid robotics, it has been started to organize
International School on Humanoid Soccer Robots in different parts of the
world. The objective of the schools are to give students deep insights into
the currently leading approaches in the field of humanoid soccer robots. By
defining, International School on Humanoid Soccer Robots, humanoid league
is planning to define a project to promote the RoboCup Community.

Local organization of this event, kindly invite you and your research team
to attend this event and also present your team technical issues and also
share these valuable information with the other participants of Humanoid
School.

Regards

20-22 May, 2015

National Kaohsiung First University of Science & Technology (NKFUST), Taiwan

* *Abstract*

*--------------*

The development of humanoid robots able to play soccer is a fundamental
challenge problem for robotics and AI. Since the start of the humanoid
league in 2002, there have been lots of improvements in humanoid soccer
robots hardware and software. This is partially due to the introduction of
standard platforms (Nao, DARwIn-OP, NimbRo-OP and THOR-OP) and competitions
for complex simulated robots (3D Simulation).

The objective of the school is to give deep insights into the current state
of the art for soccer playing humanoid robots. National Kaohsiung First
University of Science & Technology (NKFUST) are proud to host the 4th
International Spring School for Humanoid Robots 2015, a unique opportunity
for everyone to learn the fundamentals and get involved in humanoid robots
projects.

* *Program*

*--------------*

The spring school will highlight the most recent advances in humanoid
robotics research.

*1- **Theory*: Many successful approaches in the areas of active
balancing, compliant control, complex motion planning, biologically
inspired approaches, team play, and human robot interaction.

*2- **Case Study:* The open source hardware and software are introduced
for popular tools in Humanoid design and implementation. In this year, two
lecturers introduce from Open Source Robot Foundation (OSRF) to Robot
Operating System (ROS) that is a famous too for humanoid research. The
actual case includes the tutorials of Atlas Robot studied by the simulator
in ROS.

*3- **Practical* *exercises*: A soccer field and real humanoid soccer
robots (Darwin-OP, Nao) will be provided for hands-on experience.

There will be sessions covering the basic theory and lab activities
covering the practice of humanoid robotics. Lectures will be presented by
well-known researchers from North America, Europe, and Asia.

** Social Activities*

*-----------------------*

To facilitate informal interactions between participants, several social
activities are planned.
