Welcome

Join RiE 2015, the 6th International Conference on Robotics in Education

and enjoy wonderful locations in

Yverdon-les-Bains – Switzerland
May 21-22, 2015

The conference will offer the latest results in the fields of research and development in Educational Robotics as well as new applications, the latest products, systems and components for using robotics in schools, in universities and in informal education.

RiE conferences have a history of previous successful editions which witness the continuously growing interest in educational robotics in Europe and world-wide. RiE conferences count so far 5 editions; in Bratislava (2010), Vienna (2011), Prague (2012), Lodz (2013), and Padua (2014).

The conference will offer the latest results in the fields of research and development in Educational Robotics as well as new applications, the latest products, systems and components for using robotics in schools, in universities and in informal education.

RiE 2015 is part of the Swiss Robotic Days 2015, with events in science, technology, arts, along with international robotic competitions, at Yverdon-les-Bains between 21 and 25 May, 2015, and benefits also from a sponsoring of IEEE Switzerland..

RiE 2015 aims at providing an insight to the latest state-of-the-art educational robotics to participants from both academic and school education. Sessions will be held on Research and Development as well as Components & Technologies, also Robotics in Production… Video presentations are recommended when they help presenters to offer a better understanding of robots, experiments and technical or educational practices. There will be also a poster session. We expect an exciting conference programme, and cordially invite researchers and educators from the field of Educational Robotics to submit their papers.

The official language of the Conference is English; nevertheless, some contributions in French are also possible, in synergy with regional host situation.

We are looking forward to receiving your papers and to meeting you in Yverdon-les-Bains in May 2015!

Call for papers, posters, workshops and special sessions

The 6th International Conference on Robotics in Education will be held along with other events, during the Swiss Robotic Days. Robotics will then be considered in a broad spectrum, reaching from novel areas of science, trough technological developments, industrial and commercial applications, all the way, to entertainment, art and culture, including activities for the youth.

A particular place is allotted to education.

The Robotics in Education Conference is thus the framework for providing best science in robotics, while addressing schematically two complementary kinds of contributions: on one side on technical aspects and on the other side on matters of pedagogy.

Application may be considered here for the whole educative range, from elementary school to high school, college, university and beyond, for continuing education and possibly outreach and workforce development. A particular place is given to robotic contests.

The call is made for papers, posters, workshops and special sessions.

Students (undergraduate, graduate, Ph. D.) are also encouraged to submit quality papers. An award will be delivered for the “Best student paper”.

Submissions

Submission of papers

Submissions must be original and should not have been published previously. The official language of RIE 2015 is English; French may also be considered in selected cases, especially in synergy with possible regional contributions.

All submitted papers should include: Title of the paper, abstract, keywords, author’s name(s), speaker’s name, affiliation, e-mail, preference for oral or poster presentation.

Submitted papers must follow the two-column format with single-spaced, ten-point font in the text. The length of submitted papers can be max 6 pages including figures and references. After the successful review process, the final version of the paper (max. six A4 pages) is to be prepared according to the templates.

LaTeX and Microsoft Word templates are based on the IEEE Manuscript Templates for Conference Proceedings.

Authors using Microsoft Word should use the A4 template and follow the instructions within the template document.
Authors using LaTex should include the \documentclass[conference,a4paper]{IEEEtran} option in their latex file and follow the instructions in the IEEEtran_HOWTO (pdf) document.
Upon paper acceptance, at least one of the authors shall register to the conference.

Several plans are currenly under consideration for best publication of accepted papers.

Submission should be made through the EasyChair system : https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=rie2015 .

Poster session

We welcome the submission of short papers (2 pages) reporting good practices and successful experiences from educational robotics projects in the form of “short paper plus poster”. The short papers (2 pages) will be included in the proceedings (format, as for papers); the posters will be presented at the workshop during a poster session. The format is similar to the beginning of a paper (title, author(s)/organizer(s), contact information -address and email, and an extended abstract, along with the A4 copy of the poster.

Submission should be made through the EasyChair system : https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=rie2015 .

Proposals of workshops and special sessions

Proposals for workshops or special sessions can be addressed to the co-chairpersons, stating the purpose, intended audience and rough requirements in terms of infrastructure. A short description, for communication purpose, should be provided. The format is similar to the beginning of a paper (title, author(s)/organizer(s), contact information -address and email, and abstract).

Award for students

Students (undergraduate, graduate, Ph. D.) are also encouraged to submit papers. First, such papers will be reviewed like the other, regular papers. Then they will be further evaluated and may receive the award of “Best student paper”, along with 500 Euros in Prize money. In addition to the regular Easychair process for paper submission (see above), application for the student contest should be made by a short e-mail addressed to the co-chairpersons.
