Dear All

The Robotics Group of Ostfalia University has two open positions.

You can find the job descriptions here: https://www.ostfalia.de/export/sites/default/de/d2/download/Kb_050_I_Quali_Gerndt-1.pdf and here https://www.ostfalia.de/export/sites/default/de/d2/download/Kb_049_I_Gerndt-2.pdf. Sorry, German only, but Google translate may help. The crucial part of both of them then should mostly reads like this:

"For our department of computer science at the campus Wolfenbüttel we are looking for a Laboratory engineer / technician in the field of robotics / human-machine interaction / technical computer science.
The position is initially limited to two years. (Note: typically extended)
Wanted: an employee / engineer for participation in research and development projects in the areas of robotics and human-machine / human-robot interaction as well as for the support of student projects (Note: specifically the Ostfalia RoboCup team in humanoid and @work leagues). Additional responsibilities include the support of international guest students - lecturers and researchers, as well as support in the teaching and laboratory organization.
Requirement is a completed, relevant study program (bachelor), as well as practical experience in the field of robotics and / or human-machine interaction. English language skills in speaking and writing is required. Experience in dealing with current and prospective students, also under gender aspects are desirable.
The Ostfalia offers its employees in addition to the job the opportunity to participate in a Master's degree in computer science.
The working time is 19.9 hrs. / Week (50%). (Note: working for 19.9 hrs and free to do 'other things‘ the rest of the time.)
The salary will be in accordance with German '11 TV-L'. (Note: taking home approx. 1200 EUR.)
At Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences women are underrepresented in this pay group. Based on the Lower Saxony Equality Act (NGG) respective applications are therefore particularly welcome.
When equally qualified, handicapped applications will be considered with priority.
Please submit your application with the usual documents (application letter, CV, certificates) until 09/26/2014, quoting reference Kb 049 14 resp. Kb 050 14 to Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel), Department 2, Salzdahlumer Str. 46/48, 38302 Wolfenbuettel, Germany."

The holders of the positions are strongly encouraged to carry on working on their academic career. Attending the Ostfalia 2-years CS master program is one of the options (https://www.ostfalia.de/cms/en/i/index.html). Please observe that enrollment requires a German language certificate. However, a sufficient level may possibly be acquired within one year of intensive German language studies in parallel to the job and enrollment could be planned for the time after. The position is also suitable for more advanced students with a matching research focus.

Ostfalia University main campus and the Robotics Group are located in Wolfenbuettel (http://www.wolfenbuettel.de), which is in the northern part of Germany, next to Braunschweig and the state capital Hannover. The area is well known for its engineering companies, especially in the field of mobility (automotive, aeronautics, public transport, ...). Volkswagen (VW), with main plant, research and administration, is one of the major companies. Ostfalia has 12 departments and about 12.000 students. Living at ‚student level‘ in Wolfenbuettel starts at something like 700 EUR per month.

If you are interested in a wide range of robotic and HMI activities and challenges, technically and with respect to working with a student team, you should apply.

I will be happy to answer any further questions. Please keep in mind the deadline, September 26, for your final application.

Regards

Reinhard Gerndt
