SECOND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
and ANNOUNCEMENT OF TRAVEL SUPPORT
The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE-RAS) Safety, Security and
Rescue Robotics Summer School is a hands-on five-day academic summer
school for graduate students and early career researchers on the
challenges and Best-in-Class solutions for Safety, Security and Rescue
Robotics (SSRR). This event has been established by members of the SSRR
research community, including members of the Organising Committee of the
International RoboCupRescue Robot League, and supported by the IEEE-RAS,
to better address the rapidly growing need for effective robotic
solutions in emergency response scenarios.
This event is open to all researchers and is focused on graduate
students and early career researchers interested in a broad
understanding of the SSRR field, coupled with in-depth knowledge of
specific topics of great current relevance. We welcome applications from
both inside and outside the RoboCupRescue Robot League community. In
particular we welcome those interested in participating in the DARPA
Robotics Challenge and who would like to leverage the wealth of
experience from the RoboCupRescue Robot League and the broader SSRR
community.
Please visit the website at http://www.ssrrsummerschool.org/ and send
email to info at ssrrsummerschool.org if you have any further questions or
if you would like to be added to the low volume SSRR Summer School
announcements mailing list.
DATES:
The main summer school runs from Monday the 10th to Friday the 14th of
September, 2012. An optional tutorial on the Robot Operating System
(ROS) and the Gazebo simulator will be held on Sunday the 9th of September.
REGISTRATION:
Registrations are now open! Please visit
http://registration.ssrrsummerschool.org/ for more information. Note
that space is limited and we will begin assigning spots to applicants
starting early July so please apply early to ensure your spot at this
event! The hard cutoff date for applications will be late July but we
anticipate only a few spots will remain available to those who submit
applications close to this date.
TRAVEL SUPPORT:
The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society has provided funding to support
the participation of IEEE-RAS student members. This support will be
limited, competitive and take the form of a reimbursement of the
registration fee, reimbursement for the cost of shared accommodation and
partial reimbursement of travel expenses. Please see the website for
further details. Note that IEEE-RAS student membership is a precondition
only for travel support, non-members are still most welcome to apply to
attend the event without travel support.
