ROS RoboCup Rescue Summer School 2012

When: 20 - 24 August 2012
Where: Graz, University of Technology, Graz, Austria
Website: http://www.tedusar.eu/cms/en/summerschool2012

RoboCup Rescue wants to foster the research on robots that can be used
in unstructured environments after natural or man-made disasters. The
ultimate goal is to develop assistance systems either robots or
software that can be used by first responder in the field. To speed
up the overall development, open source standard software solution for
RoboCup Rescue has already been developed in similar earlier workshops.
This summer school aims to continue the development on the open source
framework. Moreover, it aims to instruct new teams in order to allow
them to benefit from the common framework as well.

The ROS based framework will enable the teams to adopt quickly to world
class level, and to make good solutions reusable. The common framework
will enable the teams to focus on certain aspects, and to share their
solutions with the community easily.

Basic common modules, for instance for mapping, are already available
and used by different RoboCup rescue teams. In the summer school the
development of common modules for autonomy and user interfaces will
be in focus.

The summer school will be split up in two tracks:

Track 1: basic introduction to ROS plus hand-on exercises with the so
far developed common rescue robot software for beginners. The goal
of the track is that teams can use the existing common software
modules on their robots.

Track 2: this track focuses on a particular topic such as autonomy,
path planning, theoretical/practical lectures plus development of
common software components based on ROS in exercises. The goal of
the track is to extend the repository of common software modules
by modules for autonomy and user interface.

The tentative program is available on the website:

Registration deadline is Friday, 25 May 2012. See:

The summer school is funded by the Operational Programme Slovenia-
Austria 2007-2013. Limited travel support will be provided by the
RoboCup Federation.
