Call for Participation

Challenge
Coordination of a mobile multi-robot system in a rescue mission.

Description
The design competition proposed for CiberRato 2011 develops around a simulated multi-robot rescue mission. Each team is composed by five mobile autonomous agents that need to find a specific spot in a maze (target), join there, and return to another spot (home). Agents may communicate among themselves, and use a virtual GPS and some typical sensors of mobile robotics, such as infrared, bumper or compass.

To make a team and to participate in this challenge is a great way to test skills in agent programming for both efficient robot navigation and effective communication needed for their cooperation.

Simulation tools and rules
The simulation tools, including a basic reactive robot agent, are available for Windows, Linux and in source code at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/cpss/files/cpss/1.5.8/

The CiberRato 2011 rules are available at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/cpss/files/cpss/1.5.8/rules_ciberrato_2011.pdf

Certificates and Trophies
All participating teams will receive a Certificate of Participation and Trophies will be awarded to the 3 top score teams.

Preregistration
The interested teams are required to send an email to sb.ua at ieee.org until 15 April 2011. The message should contain:

- Name of the team

- Institution

- Name and email of team members

- Address of team leader

Two types of participation are possible: on-site participation and remote participation. The on-site participation requires the team to be present in the event location (Aveiro, Portugal). The remote participation allows the teams to participate in the actual competition using pre-built simulated robots that must be sent to the organizers in advance.

Registration
Registration fee is 20 Euros plus 5 Euros per team member and must be paid until 30 April 2011.
