The CSIRO ICT Centre is building a role for Australia as a global ICT
innovator by delivering leading-edge Information and Communication
Technology solutions for industry and society. The Centre has over 250
researchers across Australia working on a wide range of ICT
technologies and application areas.

The ICT Centre wishes to appoint a software engineer to support our
research covering distributed computing, machine learning, event
detection, and network analysis. We are seeking a highly competent,
motivated, and versatile candidate who is keen to work in our projects
on Distributed Energy and Gas Separator Systems. The successful
candidate will work in a small team with key scientists to undertake
research in smart grids, anomaly detection, information-theoretic and
topological analysis of complex networks and systems. The focus of the
work is on our collaboration with the CSIRO Energy Flagship.

You will have excellent software development skills with a focus on
implementation of algorithms, distributed computation and simulation.
We are looking for someone with solid experience in academia and/or
industry, with a track record of working both independently and as a
member of a research team.

The duties for the position are as follows:

  * Undertake software development for the adaptive systems team.
  * Implement systems in Java, C++, MATLAB and assist with their
integration into existing software packages.
  * Carry out experiments with researchers in the area of simulation.
  * Collaborate with colleagues in other teams across the Autonomous
Systems Laboratory, and the Energy Transformed Flagship.
  * Contribute to the effective functioning of a research team and
help deliver upon CSIRO’s organisational objectives.

Selection Criteria
------------------

Essential:

  1. A bachelor degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or
equivalent.
  2. Demonstrated software development skills in MATLAB, C/C++ and/or
Java.
  3. Demonstrated use of software engineering methodologies and
processes.
  4. Experience in the development of software in the areas of one or
more of information theory, dynamical systems, graph theory, machine
learning or mathematical modelling.
  5. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Proven ability to develop software documentation.
  7. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  8. Proven ability to meet tight project deadlines/milestones.

Desirable:

  9. Experience with LabVIEW.
10. Programming experience in the areas of cellular automata, network
analysis tools, genetic algorithms, artificial life approaches.
11. Programming experience with statistical or neural learning and/or
scale-free networks.
12. Programming experience in the area of Smart Grids and Distributed
Energy Systems.
