In the field of innovative software technologies, the German Research
Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is the leading research
institution in Germany, and in the international science community the
DFKI ranks among the most important "Centers of Excellence" worldwide.

Within two research projects at DFKI Bremen dealing with brain reading
interfaces, one currently running [1] and another starting soon, are
open positions for two researchers:

Position A: Algorithms, Machine Learning and Method-Development

Candidates applying for this position should be interested in machine
learning and data processing and acquisition. The candidate will be
responsible for developing new methods of analysing highly complex
massive data.

The following skills and interests are required for this position:
* Experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, computational
analysis of biological data, signal processing, or related fields
* Demonstrated strong ability of independent, self-organized research
* Solid background in mathematics, statistics, theoretical computer
science, or efficient algorithms
* Interest to work in an interdisciplinary environment with life
scientists, computer scientists, and engineers
* Interest in high performance and cluster computing is a plus

Position B: Acquisition and Infrastructure

Candidates applying for this position will be responsible for developing
new acquisition methods for large sets of EEG data. The candidate should
be interested in developing new frameworks and infrastructure software
and hardware for acquiring and processing this data.

The following skills and interests are required for this position:
* Experience in low level software or driver development
* Solid foundations in C/C++ but also interest in interfacing high level
scripting languages
* Willingness to work on heterogeneous platforms (Windows, Linux, OS X)
* Interest in software engineering and architecture (UML), distributed
computing (high performance computing, cluster computing), FPGA design,
or GPU-computing is a plus

There is the possibility for MSc to prepare a PhD thesis in that time frame.

The DFKI Robotics Laboratory offers a competitive salary and the
opportunity to work with a dynamic, continuously growing team in an
interesting research environment.

The DFKI is an equal opportunity employer. Women are especially
encouraged to apply. Handicapped applicants with equal qualification
will be given preferential treatment.

Applicants should send a letter of interest, a CV, two references and a
note stating which position (A or B) they apply for in electronic form to:
