Dear all,

Since many teams send me email and ask about 3DD competition, I send the
details to world-wide-list. These details were sent before to the soccer
simulation mailing lists. If you are interested, I suggest you to join the
following mailing list:

The following is the call for proposal in 3D Development, RoboCup2009.The
procedure is a bit different from previous years.

======================================================

Call for Proposal 3D Development RoboCup2009[1]

======================================================

*Important Dat3: January 1st, 2009*

3D Development competition has been part of soccer simulation league since
RoboCup2005. The main idea behind the development competition is to get more
input from the community in order to speed up the development of the 3D
simulator. During these years, some of the works from teams participating in
3D Development competition merged with the 3D simulator but some of them
were a bit far from the road map of the soccer simulation league. This year,
in order to improve usage and integration of the submitted works in current
3D simulator, Technical Committee decided to change the process of
participation in this competition. The main point is submitting proposal.
This year, the evaluation is not limited only to qualification and
presentations in the event; teams will be evaluated by Technical committee
from the time they submit their proposals. TC and MC will express teams its
opinion and teams should consider these notes. The following describes the
new procedure.

*Purpose of proposal*
---------------------------------
The first step to participate in this competition is submitting proposal.
This proposal differs from TDP; it should express the purpose and general
idea of the team. Reviewing proposals, TC cd can classify the works and
decrease duplications. Also, teams will be notified how related is their
works. We will create a mailing list for 3DD which includes accepted teams,
TC, and MC members. TC and MC will comment on the development works in this
list. MC members are also eligible to submit their works in 3D Development
competition. This work can be the core of the proposal but there have to be
more features and works, too.

***Evaluation measures
*---------------------------------
The evaluation measure is based on the usefulness and integration of the
proposed research in current simulator. Checking the idea with the plan of
MC for this year can be helpful (MC plan will be announced soon).

***Time Table*
---------------------------------

   - Proposal Submission: 01.01.09 (dd.mm.yy)
   - Proposal Evaluation Announcement: 12.01.09
   - Qualification Material Submission: TBA by OC (around mid Feb)
   - Qualification Results: TBA by OC (around mid March)
   - Final Material Submission: 20.05.09
   - Source Release: 25.05.09
   - Source Update: 2 days before presentation
   - Team Presentation: TBA by OC (during RC2009 event)

*Suggested topics*

---------------------------------

1. Monitor: Spectacular visual effects and eye candies e.g. commentator

2. Tools: Trainer, etc.

3. Abstract Physical Layer for Server works with different engines e.g. ODE
and PhysX

4. Using other rendering engines in simspark e.g. OGRE

5. Improvement of simspark architecture leading to considerable increment in
the simulator's performance e.g. distributed simulation

6. Referee

7. Implementing Sensors and Actuators for NAO agent

8. Any related suggested topic which can help the improvement of the
simulator

*Rules*

----------------------------------

The main concerns of TC is that the source should work and be importable to
the repository of simspark. Other rules will be announced by OC later.

*Proposal structure*

----------------------------------

The proposal should be in LNCS format and express the followings:

1. Research title and the general model

2. How related is to the current simulator and road map of soccer simulation
league.

3. How the implementation of the proposed research can be integrated in the
current 3D simulator.

4. The implementation platform and requirements

5. Previous related works of the team

6. Previous related publications of the team

***Submission of the proposal*
----------------------------------------
In order to submit your proposal, send your team's proposal to
saharasadi at gmail.com by the deadline. The proposal should be in pdf.
