Call for Papers:

The universe of RoboCup simulators --
Implementations, Challenges and Strategies for Collaboration

Workshop at the International Conference on Simulation, Modeling,
and Programming for Autonomous Robots (SIMPAR) 2008

November 4th, 2008
Venice, Italy

http://www.simpar-conference.org/

* Scope & Aim:

Creating realistic simulators for robotics research is a difficult and
time-consuming task. Nevertheless, almost every robotics group is
working on custom simulation solutions for their specific robots,
often re-inventing the wheel and investing time that could be used for
research on the concrete problems at hand. This is no different within
the RoboCup community where many teams are building simulators for
their robots from scratch again and again. Given the ambitions, goal
and time-frame of the RoboCup initiative, it would be beneficial if
these resources could be put to other use. Therefore, this workshop is
intended to bring together researchers from within RoboCup and
relevant companies to survey the state of the art in mobile robot
simulation, get a clear picture of what teams require for their robot
simulations, what is missing from existing solutions, and to explore
possibilities for collaborations, e.g. through standards and project
mergers.

* Workshop topics include, but are not limited to:

- design and implementation of robot simulators
- application of simulators within RoboCup
- standards for robot simulation
- work flows for robot model creation
- robot specification languages for RoboCup
- tools used in conjunction with robot simulators
- requirement analysis for future simulators
- realistic physics models for robot simulators
- validation studies for existing simulators

* Important dates:

Submission of full papers: September 12nd
Notification of acceptance: October 5th
Submission of camera ready papers: October 20th
Workshop: November 4th

* Venue:

The workshop will be held at the Telecom Future Center, in an antique
cloister in Campo San Salvador - San Marco, Venice, Italy (a
conference site of the Telecom Italia http://
www.telecomfuturecentre.it/ ). It will be co-located with SIMPAR 2008
(SIMULATION, MODELING and PROGRAMMING for AUTONOMOUS ROBOTS, http://www.simpar-conference.org/
  )

* Format:

We will have oral presentations and an open discussion at the end of
the workshop.
For details on the submission, please visit the workshop website (http://www.simpar-conference.org/
, then go to 'Workshops' -> 'The Universe of RoboCup Simulators').
