Hi all!

Since there's not much discussion, I hope to start the ball rolling.

The TC is quite in favour of increasing field size. What does the rest of the teams think?
I think if you disagree, it's important that you voice out.

More importantly, how are we going to determine what's the new field size?

Many of you are probably aware that the SSL field size has been adjusted many times, with little improvement in passings. At least, no the kind of passing that we want to see.

We need a more scientific way to determine the new field size. I would suggest that teams with good simulator conduct a test on different field size and then make a recommendation. Any teams to volunteer? We will need to fix some parameters like robot speed and acceleration for the test. Remember that as the field gets bigger, the robot will also travel faster.

Hi RoboCuppers,

it is time to start working on the new rules. To make this in a
structured way, the TC has prepared the following schedule:

Until September 15th: Community Discussion about Major Changes
--------------------------------------------------------------
The SSL community is asked to propose and discuss major rule changes for
2008 via the mailing list. In this context, "major" means everything
that strongly affects the construction of SSL robots or the environment,
e.g. increase field size, increase number of robots, disallow some kinds
of ball manipulation devices, ...
Those who had been at RoboCup 2007, might have read and discussed the
possible future options for the SSL which had been presented on a
poster. The content of this poster is now available at
http://small-size.informatik.uni-bremen.de/sslroadmap and might serve as
a base for this discussion.
We are looking forward to a broad and intensive discussion!

Until October 7th: TC Discussion about Major Changes
----------------------------------------------------
The TC will discuss and decide on the major changes for 2008,
considering the feedback from the SSL community.

October 8th: Announcement of Major Changes
------------------------------------------
The TC announces all major rule changes for 2008. After this date, these
issues are considered final.

Until November 1st: Discussion about Minor Changes
--------------------------------------------------
The SSL community is asked to propose and discuss all other rule changes
for 2008.

Until November 30th: TC Discussion about Minor Changes
------------------------------------------------------
The TC will discuss and decide on the rules for 2008, considering the
feedback from the SSL community.

December 1st: Announcement of Rules for 2008
--------------------------------------------
The rules for 2008 will be online and final.

Best regards,

Tim
