[robocup-small] Information on Accommodation, Travel and Safety - RoboCup 2014

Dear RoboCuppers,

 

With less than 2 months away from the kickoff of RoboCup 2014 in João Pessoa we would like to give you important information and recommendations regarding accommodation, travel and safety. The local organization committee is working very hard to prepare for a well organized, exciting, entertaining and safe RoboCup in Brazil. 

 

João Pessoa has a beautiful seaside with tropical beaches. All hotels and accommodation opportunities offered through the official RoboCup 2014 website are in the coast area that encompasses the Tambau and Cabo Branco Beaches. A sufficient number of rooms in all price ranges have been reserved exclusively for RoboCup participants. These accommodations are managed by Luck Viagens agency and you can book them directly through the event website (http://www.robocup2014.org/?page_id=127). The list of selected hotels and their prices can be found attached and it is also displayed on the given website. Please, use the list of hotels on the website to assure that your visit in Brazil will be very comfortable and pleasant.

 

Please note that the deadline for booking one of the blocked rooms is

                                    *** June 10th ***.

After this date, we will be not able to guarantee the availability of rooms and their prices.

 

We strongly recommend that you book accommodation for all of your team members through our event web page. We strongly discourage you from booking any other hotel out of this list for several reasons:

* The recommended hotels for the event are all along the coast where you can walk during the day and the evening comfortably and safe. In those areas, there is a special tourist police force that can help you in English language. It is recommended to stay in the coast area that encompasses the Tambau and Cabo Branco Beaches where special safety measurements have been taken. It is furthermore recommended to avoid to walk away from this area as other areas of the city are less safe. It is therefore not recommended to stay in a hotel away from the area of the selected hotels or to go there on your own.

* All of the official hotels will be served by a free bus shuttle service exclusively established to bring RoboCup participants from their hotels to the venue, which is about 8-16km away from the selected hotel area, and back. The place and number of stops and busses will be adapted according to the final distribution of participants to the recommended hotels.

* All the hotels in the official list offer special prices for RoboCup participants. Because of the touristic season it is expected that all of these recommended hotels will be booked out besides the rooms blocked exclusively for RoboCup.

* From the airports of Joao Pessoa, Recife and Natal, a variety of special transport arrangements at reduced rates are available to RoboCup participants to bring them directly from the airport to their recommended hotel and back. It is highly recommended to make use of these safe and effective ways of transportation. Booking information is available on http://www.robocup2014.org/?page_id=1180  

* For the participants in all of the rooms booked through the official agency in the recommended hotels, LOC plans to make their badges available in the hotel as you arrive. Also special volunteers will be available at these hotels to assist RoboCup participants in any needs. 

 

Regarding vaccination, João Pessoa does not require Yellow Fever or Malaria vaccines. However, if you plan to visit other areas of Brazil you should check for recent travel health information of other areas 4-8 weeks before departure. Additional information and hints will be given on the event web page.
