Hi Raul!
A lighter ball, unless it is really light like a balloon, will travel
faster. It is also likely to be weaker and easily damaged by the contending
robots.
As for making the robots smaller, one big issue is that existing robots
cannot be used at all, unless they are phased out slowly. Things get
complicated during the transition period.

What about a lighter ball (maybe made out of foam)?
What about decreasing the size of the robots?
