Dear RoboCup Humanoid Teams,

this email contains important announcements for the RoboCup 2019 preparation. Please read the email carefully and send any questions and concerns to the Technical Committee.

== (1) Updates to the rule book ==
The Technical Committee would like to thank all team leaders and other interested team members who participated in the rule discussion during RoboCup 2018. Many interesting ideas were discussed and the team leaders have already decided on some important updates to the rules. Please find the official meeting minutes attached. If you find any mistakes in the content, please let the Technical Committee know.

The Technical Committee will now prepare the rules for 2019 based on the voting of the team leaders and additional discussions among the members of the Technical Committee. The Technical Committee has already decided on two major changes to the rule book which we hereby announce:
1) In agreement with the voting by the team leaders, the field size of the AdultSize league will be increased. The new field size will be 9m * 14.5m, which is 2.4 times the size of last year's field. There will be an additional change to the way the artificial turf is directed for the AdultSize league. Unlike in the past years, the direction of the blade will be perpendicular to the direction of play.
Please note: This change only affects the AdultSize league and still needs to be discussed with the local organizers.

2) Natural light will be explicitly allowed for all games and technical challenges in next year's rule book. The actual light conditions will be discussed with the local organizers and depend on the environment that they can provide in Sidney. Thus, the light might be artificial as we had it in the last years, but you can no longer count on this and your robots need to be able to play in changing light conditions.

The Technical Committee is currently discussing further rule changes and a first draft of the new rule book will be announced later this fall.
If you could not participate in the discussion or have additional ideas for rule changes, please post them in the forum of the Humanoid League:
http://hl.forum.robocup.org/

== (2) Time Schedule (preliminary!) ==
The Call for Participation will be published October 1st. The deadline for submission is planned December 3rd, so that the results can be announced to the teams in the mid of January.

As in the last years, we are planning to release a first draft of the rule book and invite the league to comment on the draft and make further suggestions. We are aiming to publish the first draft in late November and the discussion shall take place until Christmas. The Technical Committee will then internally consider all ideas and prepare the final rule book so it can be released on March 1st the latest.

== (3) Updates to the Humanoid Roadmap ==
We had very interesting discussions about potential updates to the roadmap both with the Trustees and with teams during RoboCup 2018. Meeting minutes from the roadmap workshop which was held during the RoboCup Symposium will be distributed shortly.

The process of updating the roadmap will continue. The next important milestone is the workshop which will be held on October 5th during iROS in Madrid. If you are coming to iROS, please join the workshop and contribute to the roadmap discussion.

Again, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact the Technical Committee: rc-hl-tc at lists.robocup.org

Cheers,
Maike (for the HL Technical Committee)
