5th International School for Humanoid Soccer Robots
Bordeaux, France
1st - 3rd December 2017
*******************************************************************************

The workshop will bring together people working on humanoid robotic
soccer from all over the world. The event shall be a combination of a
training event for humanoid league RoboCuppers and a workshop grouping
students and researchers working with humanoid robots. The event is
open for existing RoboCup teams as well as for individuals interested
in humanoid robotics, and specifically in robotic soccer. It will
consist of a symposium to present research results and a lab workshop
for a hands-on exchange of robotics experience among experienced
researchers and students.

The workshop shall focus on the thematics of cooperation on the one
hand, and on the other hand locomotion and more generally motricity.

Robots are getting increasingly larger and costly. Logistics for a set
of robots required for a game places a large burden on the
teams. Therefore, cooperating teams are expected in the future, each
team building and maintaining only a single or two robots. From such a
perspective, it will be needed to develop different communication
protocols and strategies, and to set up a common middleware. The
workshop will provide a privileged occasion to contribute to this
work. On the other hand, locomotion is a fundamental basis of
humanoid leagues. And the state of the art is far from the real human
locomotion. The story of biped robot locomotion, and more generally
motricity, is far from being closed. Robust locomotion is still highly
challenging, involving open problems at several levels (mechanics,
sensors, mechatronics, models, learning methods, etc.). The workshop
will be a great opportunity to get exchanges and concrete experiment
time. Friendly games will be organized of course. But in order to
foster cooperation and technology exchanges, we shall organize the
meeting by mixing people from different teams while working concretely
on experiments and demonstrations.
