[robocup-humanoid] Rules for Kidsize

Dear All,

Hi, an observation from Plymouth Humanoids on the recent rule change
proposals.

The change in pitch size for Kidsize is, in our view, premature. Since
there are other things that could be developed that would make the game
more exciting for an audience, and move us towards the 2050 objectives
too. Robot football, in general, does not yet have the ability to play a
proper game of football at any level in Robocup. Currently, robots do not
worry about colliding, and they walk rather slowly when in play, and they
cannot deal with uneven pitch surfaces. Also we don¹t have proper passing
of the ball and complex game play, to name but a few limitations at
present.

So, with respect to the trustees, We wonder if it would be better for
kidsize, to keep the pitch size (the current size makes it easy to have a
development/practice pitch in a laboratory), and keeps the cost low for
teams. Yet, set penalties for collisions, and require ball passing to make
a goal, to drive forward the game development.

We also suggest that the height constraints on head sizing be defined to
camera height. This will allow robots to have human-proportioned heads,
making them more anthropomorphic and hence more attractive to the general
public (and journalists who report on these competitions).

Regards

Phil
