[robocup-humanoid] [6] Rule Suggestion: Technical Challenges I

Hello Steffen,

I see your point but I am not sure if that would be a good idea.

If teams would have to equip all of their robots with a grabbing device to take part in the Throwing Challenge, they might not participate in that challenge at all. Because they would not only risk spoiling one single robot but the entire team. All robots might get slower by the modification or suffer problems. It would not be possible to develop two or more different approaches.

The rules right now say that the robots used in the challenges have to be able to get up on their own and have to be used in a match before. Nobody has an interest in developing hardware that cannot be reused in a game or weakens the robots abilities. But in case of the grabber a field player currently would not even be allowed to use that device. Why should we add one to all robots?

Hi,

we would like to add 3 small rule suggestions to this discussion.

** Robots participating in technical challenges **

Seeing Technical Challenges as way to facilitate new and tough tasks
which are going to be incorporated in regular matches of the upcoming
RoboCup, more precise rules towards the modifications of the robots
would improve this process.

Every robot of a team should be able to solve a challenge, not only
the modified ones or the modifications should be installed on every
robot at the beginning of the RoboCup and should be used during the
matches as well.
Otherwise the current rules will lead to modifications tailored to
specific challenges which are useless in real match situations.
Older challenges like fast walking, obstacle avoidance or passing showed
that its possible to integrate the tasks of Technical Challenges into
real matches without any special modifications of the robots.
