Sure, you have an opportunity to participate in this project. As for getting started with mlpack, the tutorials page should provide some useful documentation on getting comfortable with the library, using the command-line executables, and understanding the code:

In case you have not done yet so, make sure you understand the design pattern used by mlpack.
