On second thought I have to agree.  I made these changes "just to see if I could get it to work" more than anything else, and thought to myself, "I'll change it back once I bump the minimum version".  But bumping the minimum version generally means checking the newest available version in Ubuntu old-LTS and current stable RHEL, which I didn't bother to do.  You've done the hard work for me, so I reverted the change in 045c16a and updated the minimum versions of the dependencies.  Thanks for keeping me honest. :)

Sorry about the RHEL package, I got busy and forgot.  I will try to do it soon but if I don't feel free to keep nudging...
