Sure, I'll go ahead and merge this.  I've been reading a bit about Spirit, it seems very weird-looking, so please be sure to document thoroughly what everything does, so that some maintainer who doesn't know what Spirit is can have some idea of how the code works.

What version of Spirit are you planning to use?  I think we should stick with Spirit 2 (I guess 2.5 and up?) since that is available from Boost 1.47 onwards.
