Comment:

 Ok, in r15761 I have added the two overloads of Apply() with varRetained;
 in r15762 I wrote a test to verify they work correctly, and in r15763 I
 added an option (-V) to the pca executable.

 I'm going to go ahead and close this ticket; if I've missed something,
 feel free to reopen it.
