 Due to the recent changes in the Statistic class API, I'm certain that
 this won't work anymore.  Either we need someone to fix it (and rewrite it
 in a tree-independent manner) or it needs to be removed.  I may do it if I
 have time, eventually, but I don't expect that to be soon.
